An
"At the gig" report by Todd Bishopp
Last
night the original Joe Jackson Band (Joe Jackson, Dave
Houghton, Gary
Sanford, and
Graham Maby)
appeared on stage together for the first time in over twenty years at
the Fleece & Firkin Pub in Bristol. Greeted with wild and enthusiastic
cheers from the packed house, the band tore into "One More Time"
from the classic album "Look Sharp!". For the next 2 hours,
Joe and the boys delivered the goods - playing all the hits along with
several new songs.
In all, seven brand spanking
new songs were performed for the first time last night. The new songs
are very strong and should become fan favorites in short order. Hopefully
each of the new songs will appear on the new CD that Joe and the band
will begin recording in October.
The Joe Jackson Band
was in fine form as they rocked the Fleece throughout the evening. The
crowd was in great spirits as well, bobbing up and down to each song and
often singing along. "Awkward Age," "Love At First Light,"
an exquisite cover of Graham Parker's "You Can't Be Too Strong,"
"Dirty Martini," "Got The Time," and "I'm The
Man" particularly stood out this evening. All in all, it was an excellent
show. It will be interesting to see what happens in Brighton on the 19th.
