‘I think this one came too soon after the big success and the massive touring with ‘Night And Day’, and I wish now I’d taken more time off to write some better songs. Still, some of it’s very good and I like the way it sounds – I wanted it to be as close to live as possible and we basically brought the studio into a hall rather than taking the band into a studio. (That idea went a step further with the next album, ‘Big World’, which was recorded live, direct to 2-track master tape, no mixing). The cover art of ‘Body And Soul’, by the way, is a homage to a classic Blue Note album by Sonny Rollins. A few years later, Rolling Stone printed the two covers side by side and thought they were being very clever by ‘catching’ me ‘copying’ it . . .‘
